Shocker at Dakota!

Late Tuesday Result
River Park South, MB

In what should have been the first of several playoff games following an intense regular season campaign , the Lube Kings had a sense of unfinished business as they greeted reporters following a 3-1 loss at the Dakota arena on Tuesday night. “Cock sucker!” A dejected RJ was heard muttering under his breath while walking down the tunnel after the final whistle had blown.

The entire Crop Dusters roster clearly came to play Tuesday night – ALL of them and then a few; the unofficial head count stood at 23 skaters at press time…

The contest itself was an intense affair. After a scoreless first, both teams exchanged markers in the second to set up a climactic third period. The Lube Kings started the frame strong, but 5 minutes in, the Dusters roofed a rebound to take a 2-1 lead, and then potted their third marker on a beautiful set up during a two on one rush.

It must be mentioned that Goalie Mich was spotted actually standing on his head during the game; no more obviously than when he closed the door during his first penalty shot midway through the third.

The loss capped off the Lube King’s 4th season at the Dakota CC. This year the club finished with a record of 19-9-2 with a total output of 169 goals while allowing a paltry 144.

The club is looking forward to icing another team next year, so enjoy the golf season and let’s not have anyone get hurt playing SOCCER or BASKETBALL this summer…

5 Game Win Streak Halted!

RIVER PARK SOUTH, MB
Late Monday Result

“We knew it couldn’t go on forever, but we sure didn’t want it to end like that.” Those were the words from a dejected Keith Hynes while sitting in his stall deep in the bowels of the Dakota Arena Monday night. Those sentiments were echoed by the rest of the team after falling 6-5 to a 13 Guys & a Puck squad which had yet to beat the Lube Kings in 3 prior attempts this season.

The game started off strong with the home side controlling the first half of the game while protecting a one goal lead. The team seemed to slip into cruise control midway through the second period only to be rudely awakened late in the third trailing 4-2. The team mounted a valiant effort near the end of the game and on several occasions narrowed the goal deficit to 1. However, down 6-5 with 45 seconds to go in the game and with goalie Mich on the bench, the Lube Kings took an untimely roughing penalty which all but salted away their first loss in 6 games.

5 in a row!

River Park South, MB
LATE SUNDAY RESULT

“5 in a row!”. That was the headline most Winnipegers woke up to this past Monday morning, after the Lube Kings machine rolled over the rivaled 13 Guys and a Puck at the Dakota CC Sunday night.

Recording his second 2 goal performance in as may games, the Rookie showed signs of feeling much more comfortable on the ice than in past campaigns. Keep your eye on this kid in upcoming games. Also please note on your score cards that Bryce has now notched his first goal of the season by firing a Howitser from the left point.

Backstopped by call up goalie Mike Martin making his 4th start for the Kings this year, the Lube Kings came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders. The strategy on this night was clear; shoot the puck and good things will happen. Despite not registering a goal in the first period, the Lube Kings fired a team record 16 shots on net. Knowing the 13 Guys keeper could not keep up with this pace, the Lube Kings did not let up in the second and third periods, and eventually wound up solving their goalie 6 times en route to recording their 9th victory of the season.

The Lube Kings have now lost only once in the past 9 games. Stay tuned.

***FINAL SCORE***
Lube Kings 6
13 Guys & a Puck 3

Lube King Invitational a success

Late Friday Result
Winnipeg, MB

This past Friday night in Winnipeg, the Lube Kings senior men’s hockey club hosted their inaugural Lube Kings and Friends Invitational in downtown’s new MTS Center. Although everyone was clearly giving 100%, F.U.N. was certainly the order of the day.

Coming off arguably one his career best performances the previous night VS The Haze, Goalie Mich stood tall between the pipes once again for the Lube Kings. Afforded the luxury of a bonus 40 minutes of ice time (gratis), Mich was afforded the chance to properly warm up during a Tretiak-esque warm up session. At the other end of the ice, Ray “Shamrock” Sylvestre held court. Well, this guy’s just really good and he knows it, so that’s all the coverage he’ll get…

The actual final score from this contest remains a mystery as both linesmen and the head ref were unable to fill out the official game sheet. Then again, with all the penalties, on ice interviews and incessant berating coming from Coach Will, who could really blame them?

A big thanks goes out to all the participants and fans for keeping things positive and cleaning up the facility after the game. Special mention goes out to Chris Robin and game host Wayne Gretzky for providing behind the interviews and commentary. Who knows, this event might become as synonamous with Christmas as the World Juniors…

The official CD containing over 105 clips and pictures is now available for the low cost of 5$. Let me know if you want a copy.

The Rookie Leaves his Mark

River Park South, MB
Late Monday result

“Those boys didn’t have a chance…” Those were the words uttered by Lube Kings almost-rookie sensation Stevo after last night’s performance at the Dakota Comminuty Center. The Rookie put on a clinic with his scoring prowess en route to registering a 2 goal performance.

In addition to his scoring touch, the Rookie provided ample irritation to General Electric’s keeper who spent the majority of the game with Stevo’s 115lb frame firmly parked in front of his crease.Nicely done lad.

Detailed stats from this contest will be added to the next game update.

Late Sunday Result
River Park South, Mb

This past Sunday, the Lube Kings senior men’s hockey club renewed acquaintances with a familiar foe; the dreaded Quality Control. You see, it was but one short season ago that these same two juggernauts faced off against each other in the final game of the season to determine Dakota Division 4 supremacy. Despite a valliant battle, our heroes were downed 3-1 in front of a capacity crowd on that fateful night.

Now jump forward to this season and the possibility of more redemption. After all, QC had been downed 7-5 on November 13 so the feeling in the dressing room was that it could be done again. Right. Well, it was not to be on this night as the Lube Kings fell by a score of 11-4. (not a typo)
